Morning: Golf Club La Rossera, the base for this itinerary, in Chiuduno.

Afternoon: Guido Berlucchi, 13 km away in Borgonato, the estate credited with starting Franciacorta's method-classico tradition in 1961, or Barone Pizzini, 14 km out in Provaglio d'Iseo. Ca' del Bosco and Bellavista, both in Erbusco, and Contadi Castaldi in Adro round out the appellation's best-known names, all without a measured distance from the clubhouse but all a short drive inside Franciacorta proper.

Morning: Golf Club Franciacorta, 12 km away in Corte Franca, right in the middle of the wine district, or Campodoglio, 13 km out.

Afternoon: Cantina Sociale Bergamasca, 4 km from the clubhouse, the largest producer of Valcalepio DOC since 1974, across 52 members and 200 hectares. It is a different appellation from Franciacorta itself, worth tasting for the contrast rather than as a substitute.

Terroir

Franciacorta is Italy's own method-classico appellation, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero fermented a second time in the bottle on the morainic hills between Brescia and Lake Iseo. Guido Berlucchi's first vintage, in 1961, is generally credited with starting the tradition that Ca' del Bosco, Bellavista and the rest of the appellation later built into an international name.

History

Golf Club Bergamo "L'Albenza", 24 km from the base, opened in 1961, the same year as Berlucchi's first sparkling vintage, and has hosted multiple Italian Opens; it is also the course where the Molinari brothers, Italy's two Ryder Cup players, first learned the game.

Climate
