Golf in Trentino & South Tyrol: Courses, Wine & Spa

One region, two golf worlds

Trentino and South Tyrol are one region on this site, but on the ground they are two different worlds, 14 km apart at their closest point. Around Merano, Golf Club Eppan anchors the South Tyrol side, with Golf Club Eppan 4.0 km away, Golfclub Lana at 12.1 km, and Golfplatz Petersberg at 15.3 km: eight courses in range in total. The standout is Golfclub San Vigilio Siusi, 22.9 km out, an alpine course under the Sciliar with the Dolomites as backdrop. Across the gap, Dolomiti Golf Club anchors the South Tyrol side, while the Trentino corridor runs on three, and Golf Campo Carlo Magno, 28.7 km away in Madonna di Campiglio, is a 1923 alpine classic that plays at 1,700 metres. Neither side sits near a major airport: Verona is the closest, 115 km from Dolomiti Golf Club and 126 km from Golf Club Eppan, with Venice and Bergamo a little further, around 140 km either way.

Two wine roads, 14 km apart

South Tyrol runs on the Alto Adige wine road: Elena Walch, 18 km from Golf Club Eppan; Kellerei Cantina Tramin, in Termeno, known for Werner Tscholl’s glass-cube winery building; and St. Michael-Eppan, right beside the anchor course in Appiano. Cross into Trentino and the names change completely. Ferrari Trento, behind the Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore, is the reference point for Trentodoc. Foradori, in Mezzolombardo, makes Granato, a Teroldego from the Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT. San Leonardo, in the Vallagarina, adds its own estate red to the list. The two roads overlap more than the distance suggests: Kellerei Terlan, Kellerei St. Pauls, Castell Sallegg, Tröpfltalhof and Oberpreyhof are all listed as visitable from both Golf Club Eppan and Dolomiti Golf Club.

Thermal water, two different registers

South Tyrol’s answer is Terme Merano, Matteo Thun’s thermal landmark in the town itself. Trentino’s is set further into the mountains: QC Terme Dolomiti, 43.2 km into the Val di Fassa with the Dolomites UNESCO backdrop, and Terme di Rabbi, 24.3 km out, for something quieter. DolceVita Style & SPA Resort Lindenhof sits almost exactly between the two sides, 28.1 km from Golf Club Eppan and 28.2 km from Dolomiti Golf Club.

When to come, and which side to pick

South Tyrol plays through the whole year without its climate score ever hitting zero, even in a cold January averaging 8.8°C. Trentino’s Dolomites corridor, higher and more exposed, shuts down from November through February, when its score is zero across all four months, then wakes up through June and August before peaking in September at 18.6°C with 12.6 rain days. That gap is the real difference between the two itineraries: Merano is the lower, milder, wine-road side that plays nearly year-round; Dolomites is the higher, alpine side with a shorter season, 14 km up the valley.
