Bolgheri and Suvereto sit on the coastal plain south of Livorno, where the so-called Super Tuscans first blended Cabernet and Merlot with Sangiovese from the 1970s onward. Suvereto’s soils run higher in iron and clay than Bolgheri’s, and its wines lean firmer.
This stretch of coast takes its name from the Etruscans, who worked the thermal springs at Venturina long before Rome existed.
