Golf in Umbria: Courses, Wine & Spa

Golf, Sagrantino and green quiet

Golf around Lake Trasimeno

Umbria’s golf runs on one corridor around Lake Trasimeno, anchored by Golf Club Lamborghini in Panicale. From there it is a short run to Golf Club Perugia, in Corciano, 17.8 km away, but the course people actually travel for is Antognolla Golf, 27.3 km out: ranked No.1 in Italy on Leading Courses, a championship layout built around a 12th-century Umbrian castle. Three courses in range is a modest footprint next to Tuscany, just over the border, though it is enough to fill three or four days without repeating a tee time.

Sagrantino and the cellars behind it

Umbria’s wine identity runs on Sagrantino, and its two best-known producers both sit within reach of the golf. Lungarotti, in Torgiano, makes the Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio, a Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG. Arnaldo Caprai, in Montefalco, 46.4 km out, makes the 25 Anni, a Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG. A third stop, Tenuta Castelbuono, 38.7 km away, adds the Carapace, Arnaldo Pomodoro’s bronze dome over the vineyard, alongside the wine itself. Closer to the clubhouse, Cantina Berioli (12.4 km) and La Braccesca Winery (17.0 km) make for a shorter cellar afternoon, with Poderi Boscarelli (21.2 km) and Tenuta Valdipiatta (24.2 km) a little further on towards Montepulciano.

Thermal water, just over the Tuscan line

Borgobrufa SPA Resort, in Torgiano beside Lungarotti, is the region’s curated icon, though it isn’t the closest option. The real concentration of thermal water sits 23 to 28 km out, already across the border in southern Tuscany, where Terme Sorgente Sant’Elena, Parco Acquasanta, Terme di Chianciano, Piscine Termali Theia, Terme di Montepulciano and Fonteverde all cluster together around Chianciano and Montepulciano.

When to come, and the one itinerary

June is the strongest month around Lake Trasimeno, averaging 28.3°C with 7.5 rain days, ahead of October (20.7°C, 9.3 rain days) and April (18.2°C, 9.3 rain days). January is the low point of the year, both cool and still wet. Umbria runs on a single itinerary for now: Golf, Wine & Spa in Lake Trasimeno links Golf Club Lamborghini, the Sagrantino cellars and the thermal towns into one three-day route. It also works as a hub for a longer trip: Val d’Orcia is 55 km away, Tuscia 95 km and Chianti 97 km, all a comfortable drive if the plan is to keep going into Tuscany or Lazio.
