Morning: Asolo Golf Club, 27 holes across three nines in the hills above Cavaso del Tomba, laid out with the UNESCO-listed Prosecco vineyards as a backdrop. Pick any two of the three nines and the round still runs a full 18.

Afternoon: Villa Sandi, 9 km away in Crocetta del Montello, one of the names most likely to be on a Prosecco list outside Italy.

Into the UNESCO hills

No golf today: the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hillside, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019, rewards a full afternoon rather than a quick stop. Bisol 1542 and Nino Franco, both in Valdobbiadene, work the steep "Rive" slopes that give the appellation's best wines their name. Masottina, in Conegliano at the flatter end of the hills, makes an easier third stop if the group wants to compare styles.

Closer to the clubhouse, Sui Nui Spumanti, 4 km away, is the option if a shorter afternoon suits the trip better.

A second round, or a longer stay

Morning: Golf Club Ca' Amata, 18 km from Asolo, for a change of scenery on the day before travelling on. Three further nine-hole courses, around Treviso and up in Pieve Tesino, sit within this itinerary's radius for a longer stay but add real driving time.

Terroir

The Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hillside, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019, grows Glera on slopes steep enough that some rows are still worked by hand. The steepest, best-exposed parcels carry the 'Rive' designation, the appellation's own marker of a harder, better site, distinct from the flatter Prosecco DOC grown across the wider plain.

History

Asolo itself, the hill town above the golf club, was the retirement seat of Caterina Cornaro, the Venetian-born queen of Cyprus, in the late 15th century, and it has kept the nickname the City of a Hundred Horizons ever since.

Climate

A humid, hilly stretch of the Veneto foothills, wetter in spring than the plain below and prone to a properly wet November. The golf year runs April to October, with September the measured calm point: see the chart above.
