Methodology: How the Distances and Data Are Built
The full method behind GolfWineSpa: map data and computed distances, ERA5 weather normals, course data sources, editorial ratings and the correction policy.
Distances, computed
Every distance between a course, a cellar and a spa is calculated from coordinates on open map data, then rounded honestly. Drive times are estimates on rural roads and are labelled as such. We call a route an itinerary when everything sits within about an hour of a base.
Weather, ten years of it
Monthly temperatures and rain days come from ERA5 reanalysis, 2015 to 2024, computed separately for each itinerary. The month rankings weigh a comfortable playing band and penalise rain days. No marketing seasons: January in Sicily wins because the data says so.
Course facts and ratings
Par, slope and tee data come from course databases and are progressively verified with the clubs. Designers, opening years and tournament history are researched per course, with sources on file. Where a rating is editorial, the page labels it.
Corrections
A site built on figures earns the right to be corrected. Every page carries a correction line in the footer: if a number is wrong, tell us and we fix it, with the change noted.
